Criminal Appeals and Habaes Corpus

The Criminal Appeals section represents the State of Arkansas in all criminal appeals brought to the Arkansas Supreme Court, the Arkansas Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States by persons convicted of criminal offenses in counties throughout Arkansas.

The Habeas Corpus section represents the State of Arkansas in cases filed in the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western districts of Arkansas, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit by persons challenging their state criminal convictions and sentences.

The Criminal Justice Department also assists prosecutors with criminal cases at the local level, including child abuse cases and cases involving the death penalty. We also educate the public, law enforcement officers, lawyers, law students, school officials, crime victims, and public school students about criminal law and procedure.
