Information About Opinions > Form in Which Requests Should Be Submitted

Official opinion requests must be in writing and should be addressed to:

The Honorable Dustin McDaniel, Attorney General
Office of the Attorney General
ATTN: Opinions Department
323 Center Street, Suite 1100
Little Rock, AR 72201

The request must contain a complete statement of the problem, together with a concise question of law. The request should pertain to questions of statewide interest or application where there is a bona fide need to establish official legal policy for the State of Arkansas.

All requests from state boards, commissions, departments, and agencies that have legal counsel (other than counsel from the Attorney General’s office) must provide the results of counsel’s research of the question submitted.

Requests will be answered in the order of receipt, giving due flexibility for contingencies such as the need to await further information. The Attorney General attempts to answer all opinion requests within thirty days of receipt, workload permitting, and unless an earlier statutory deadline applies. Opinion requests will be expedited only upon the recommendation of the Attorney General, based upon his determination that an actual deadline exists or that expediting the request would otherwise be in the public interest.
